Andy Furlong

FRSC MCIPR

MD & Content Strategist

Andy has created content for senior figures, including business leaders, senior academics, government ministers, parliamentarians, and HRH The Princess Royal. He has organised events, facilitated productive conversations and delivered training in four continents. 

Born in Wales, Andy studied applied chemistry before embarking on a varied career in manufacturing, gaining experience in a range of management and communication roles. He moved to the non-profit sector in 1999 joining a multinational professional organisation, initially as its Head of External Relations. Following his successful delivery of the World Congress of Chemical Engineering in 2005, he joined the senior management team serving in a series of leadership positions. In 2018 voluntary redundancy allowed him to step down from the role of Director of Communication and Brand Development to focus on his work with Cogent Content. 

A passionate believer in the power of human collaboration and the importance of sharing good practice in pursuit of a fairer, more sustainable world, Andy is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. He has an enduring love of punk rock, fast motorcycles and Welsh Rugby.

Dr Sarah Furlong


Director

Sarah is a leader, project manager and mentor with broad experience in the non-profit and public sectors.  An accomplished writer and communicator, she has prepared presentations and reports for the Department of Health, NHS Trust Boards, Local Authorities and Audit Committees as well as technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and books. Sarah is skilled in the development and implementation of successful strategies, policies, and procedures in politically sensitive environments where complex vested interests overlap.

Sarah has a degree in applied biochemistry. She undertook postgraduate research in cardiac biochemistry and received her PhD in 1990. Subsequently, she progressed to director level through a series of research and policy roles with think tanks and independent scrutiny bodies, including The Kings Fund, The Healthcare Commission, and The Audit Commission. Sarah has managed stakeholder networks and transformation programmes in the NHS in Leicester and Nottingham. 

Sarah is particularly interested in advancing equality of opportunity and in enabling women and people from under-represent backgrounds to succeed. A keen naturalist, armchair botanist and amateur, organic gardener, Sarah enjoys walking, Tudor history and crime fiction.

Dr Rebecca Furlong AMIChemE
Research Manager

Rebecca is exploring ways to enable society to live more sustainably, with a specific focus on energy-efficient approaches to recycling. After securing valuable experience with global manufacturing companies, Alstom and GSK, she graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2017 with a first-class master’s degree in chemical engineering.

Additional industrial experience was gained at the international baking and confectionery company Pladis, where Rebecca was responsible for the global supply chain planning of widely recognised consumer-branded products, including Jaffa Cakes and Penguins. 

In 2024, Rebecca received her PhD from the University of Bath for her work on the chemical recycling of plastics at the Centre for Sustainable and Circular Technologies. She brings additional research capability to Cogent Content when required.

Rebecca loves cats and is a member of the Frank Turner Hard Core. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, walking, listening to music, and attending gigs and festivals. She is an Associate Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
